Aleph runs our 3 month program where we provide the surf equipment, but after the 3 months we need to help students get their own equipment. The students and their families or households can not afford and therefore do not have the financial means to acquire surfboards, wetsuits or any other surfing goods.

How many of us have extra equipment or gear lying around the house and garage that we never use anymore? Now there is a way that your gear can directly influence a life for the better. For many of the kids – it will mean the excitement of owning their first board and suit. Can you imagine the stoke of receiving something which you would never be able to get or afford yourself?

But we do want to be wise on how we approach this. We will not just give the equipment as a handout, but equipment will only be given once a community service has been done by the students applying for it. This will help teach ownership, stewardship and to receive something – you have to give something as well.

The main headquarters for Aleph is found in Jeffreys Bay, South Africa. J-bay has cold water and that means a huge need for good wetsuits. Shortboards, Longboards, leashes and fins are needed as well.

Our needs are big as we are planning 2 more Aleph Outreach Plants in the near future and we need to build up some stock for these missions.

SHARE THE STOKE

Aleph is setup for great things in 2012. The move of the Aleph Home Base to Jeffreys Bay was done in 2011. We have our program and year planned and set out. We have a fresh crop of groms*  (*‘GROMMET’ Usually affectionate term for a young surfer of school-going age. Shortened to Grom) hungry to learn how to surf.

Now all we need is for you to be apart of this story.

Aleph is the vision of one person, but that’s as far as it goes. It needs a collective community to make this vision a reality.

Over the years there has been a systematic breakdown of society, families and values. We know that in our nation of South Africa and all over the world there is a great need for youth at risk to be loved, mentored and guided along the way. Surfing is our means to that end, or so we thought. I have now found that Aleph is morphing into something I am loving more and more each day. It has become a creative collective movement…

When I think of surfing I think of cultures, destinations, music, color, art and overall joy. The reality for many of the kids we meet and work with, is that it’s a lifestyle that is unattainable for them. This unattainability is directly linked to the socio-economic environment these kids find themselves in. Poverty is not just a ‘physical’ place. It is just as much emotional and spiritual as it is physical. Poverty is a mindset that cripples communities and imprisons the coming generations. But Aleph is slowly and surely learning new ways to incorporate creative ventures into our programs. I know that Aleph is for many people and critics not the answer for annihilating world poverty forever – but I do believe it is something that can and will bless the people we come in contact with and help empower them to rise above their circumstances and living conditions.  We have already seen the fruits of our students who have been through our ranks and how they got involved in their local churches, communities and their desire to excel in school.

That being said, here are some of the focus areas of 2012:

• Aleph Creatives: The brainchild of our artists. We have incorporated art, media, photography and mural paintings into our outreach methodology to liven up the places we go. We will be hosting some art events to raise awareness and funds for our organization.
• Aleph Scholarships: Our aim is to raise funds to send some of our students who are gifted academically to universities, colleges and bible schools. This is a long term project in which the students who have completed their education will give back to Aleph by serving their local community in the field they studied.
• Job Creation: Our dream is to see Aleph be self-sustainable by creating jobs and income for our students and their families. We are venturing down the route of micro-business.
• Expansion of Aleph Outreaches: We are continuously seeking out opportunities to expand our borders and plant more outreaches. Please contact us if you feel led to start an Aleph Outreach Project.
• Developing the Aleph Brand.

As stated earlier Aleph can’t do this mission without you. We need all the help and support we can get. And it is always doing things together and being part of the bigger picture.

The best thing about Aleph is that it is heaps of FUN. Going on this journey is an adventure. Surfing, Kids, Art, Africa & beyond all the while sharing the Love of God – come on!!!

Aleph Surfing Foundation

The sessions consist of practical art skills, techniques, and theories. The lessons are inspired by the Word and creation itself that God spoke into life for us to survive, enjoy, and grow in. Aleph Creatives desires to see the gospel transforms lives and manifest the hope we have in Christ visually. Within the next couple of months, our hope is to be able to provide mural space for some of the individuals to express the freedom that they have in Christ with paint and brush.

Aleph Creatives is so stoked on this upcoming season that God is guiding us in. We are filled with great anticipation for all the developments that have only just begun. Where they will go, we cannot exactly say because God’s unpredictable.
